Overall view
of the flight line and tower at Atcham Airfield
Partial view
of the aircraft on the flight line.
British built
Westland Lysander,
in U.S. markings (left) was used to tow aerial gunnery targets.
The P-47 (right) shows bomb pylons under the wings and a red
rudder is likely a war weary cast off from the 61st FS/ 56th
FG that was reassigned to the 495th Fighter Training Group based
at Atcham. Records of the 56th FG indicate that it is possibly
P-47-D-11 "Pengie" flown by Maj. Bolek M "Mike"
Gladych.

of the Tower and aircraft.
The aircraft
on the left appears to be a British Beaufighter
attack aircraft in British markings. Note that there are at least
four bicycles visible in this view. The base was widely spread
out and bicycles were issued to the men to make it easier for
them to get around.
